內(nèi)容簡介

In the past decade there has been an explosive growth in the the technology for Voltage Sourced Converters (VSC) for HVDC Transmission. The multi-level modular converter (MMC)  has  now become the standard VSC Converter. Due its structure and complexity, it proves to be challenge for fast digital simulators, particularly real-time digital simulators such as the RTDS. Also, today, different topologies are being proposed for the MMC, such as half-bridge, full-bridge, multi-port  etc.;  and the modelling approaches can be quite different for each of these.

The talk will consider the different approaches that have been developed in modern times to model this device, such as fast detailed models based on Thevenin equivalents, averaged models and models that use an alternate representation of the semiconductor switch. The talk will discuss the advantages and drawbacks of each of these models, and recommend which model should be used to investigate a particular phenomenon in simulation studies.  The talk will also discuss how converter switching and conduction losses can be represented in such models.
